SACRAMENTO - The California Taxpayers’ Association (Cal-Tax) today released their 2008 Legislative Scorecard and commended Assemblyman Roger Niello (R-Fair Oaks) for his 100% rating in strong support of the Cal-Tax position on legislative issues. Cal-Tax has been representing taxpayers for more than 80 years as the state’s oldest watchdog on tax and other public finance issues. The report is a compilation of the highest priority bills on which Cal-Tax took a position.
“My commitment to fighting the ever-growing tax burden on Californians is strong. I oppose tax hikes not on the basis of an abstract pledge or a partisan litmus test, but because I believe that California has the best chance at success if the hardworking men and women of this state keep more of their own money,” said Assemblyman Roger Niello. “I am honored to receive such a high rating from an organization known for its allegiance to this principle.”
“Assemblyman Roger Niello has a consistent record of protecting the California taxpayer,” Cal-Tax President Teresa Casazza said. “In 20 out of 20 legislative measures that Cal-Tax tracked this year, Assemblyman Niello sided with taxpayers and rejected new taxes that would have hurt California’s economy and threatened jobs.”
Accountability for legislative votes on tax and public spending issues is critically important, as they have an enormous impact on the health of California’s economy and the state’s ability to attract investment and jobs. The cost of government in California, the level of taxation, and the operation of the tax system are highly quantifiable measures that businesses evaluate when making decisions on locating operations.
